History
The change of name from CAMP to Nyame Bekyere has made it necessary to present this brief history.
When we talk about Nyame Bekyere we must remember CAMP.
In 1948 the public works department (PWD) moved their camp from Osuobeto to Kwayisi Hill at mile 46. They were fixing the Koforidua to Mamfe roads.
There were separate villages for example Kwayisi Tuntum Village, Tetteh Kwasi Village, Kwame Yirenkyi Village, Boafo Village, Twereboana Village, Opata Village, Odeibea Village, Kwaku Asante Village, Kwasi Djankpah Village, Opanyin Yaw Anomah Village, Azariko Village, Kwame Darko Village, Dwirantwi Village, Akuffo Vilage and Kwame Fiti Village.
Nyame Bekyere lies between Tinkong River, from Tinkong to Osuobeto in Akuapem North District. In 1955 Opanyin Kwaku Agyei Yeboah moved from Kwayisi Tuntum’s village and settled at the camp. The second person to follow him was Opanyin Kofi Nyinaku a renowned herbalist who moved from Yaw Anomah’s Village on 24th December, 1959.
NAMING OF THE COMMUNITY
On Thursday, 28th January 1960 Opanyin Kofi Nyinaku called a meeting at the Camp. All the elders from their various village attended the meeting. He gave his elders a full briefing about the meeting, about naming of the community.
Opanyin Kwabena Omenako moved that the name should be called KWAME YIRENKYI NKWANTA, Opanyin Kwaku Agyei Yeboah also suggested the name KWAYISI NKWANTA, Opanyin Kwaku Asante too wanted the name to be known and called NTONKESEM.
Opanyin Kofi Nyinaku suggested the name NYAME BEKYERE.
All the elders broke into rapturous applause –NYAME BEKYERE was unanimously agreed
CHOSEN OF ELDERS
At the same day Opanyin Kwaku Agyei Yeboah was chosen Odikro of Nyame Bekyere. Opanyin Kofi Nyinaku was made Mankrado of Nyame Bekyere, Okyeame went to S.Y Nyinaku who later became Mankrado Ampong Henaku I after the death of his father in 1961.
Opanyin Kwabena Omenako and Opanyin Tetteh were chosen Ankobeafo, Osafohene went to Opanyin D.K Asiamah
